Fibre Optic gigabit broadband internet
Following the lead of Google in the US, Australian telco "Fobos Telecom" is launching a 1 Gb/s suburban GPON fibre service to serve homes and businesses hungry for bandwidth. "Fobos Telecom" communications are mostly powered by DGtec.
Currently we offer up to 1 gigabit per second upload and 1 gigabit per second download internet, but our fibre optics supports up to 10 gigabits over the same piece of fibre.
Similar to the HFC cable broadband rollouts of the 1990s (NBN), the fibre rollout will rely on overhead cables strung below power lines. Whereas the HFC cable rollouts bypassed some homes and streets, "Fobos Telecom" is aiming for 100 percent availability within its coverage footprint. GPON is also used by the fibre-to-the-premises sections of the NBN, although currently it only delivers 100 Mbps download speeds and 40 Mbps uploads to most users.
To make it easiere: our internet is 10 times faster then NBN and 100 times faster in the nearest future.
Another key difference between the NBN and "Fobos Telecom" GPON rollouts is that "Fobos Telecom" is building its own exchange centres rather than relying on Telstra's telephone exchanges as central points. This makes it easier for "Fobos Telecom" to manage and maintain the network from end premises all the way back to the network backbone.
